What is College Essay KJ?
It’s simple to say that an effective college essay doesn’t list accomplishments but tells a personal story. What’s hard is asking high school students to create a window into their unique character in 650 words.
As a college essay writing instructor, I work with students to identify and craft story moments so admissions officers can picture that student in their academic community.
This newsletter demystifies writing college application essays by breaking the process down into two parts:
Get It Down - real talk and exercises that examine the purpose of a personal statement and help generate ideas for first drafts.
Fix It Up - focuses on revision techniques, such as crafting story starters to hook readers and landing on a memorable endnote.
